Zoom! It’s more than just a Bible Study

Zoom! It’s more than just a Bible Study

“ZOOM” was what it felt like being outside on this windy Monday!

But having used the word…let’s put it in its proper context!

We’ll have another look at Philippians 3…It’d be great to have you there!

Thank you! for the great questions & insightful observations and for your faithfulness as reflected in what we discussed at our AGM on Sunday. The meeting is the easy part…the hard part is turning our votes of support into tangible growing levels of support for the mission budget, for the Steering Team we elected, & for the ministry God has entrusted to us here. The crucial part is always what comes after the meeting. I’m confident God will enable us to rise to the challenge.

As we look ahead into the few weeks remaining in this year…Sunday we wrap up our quick look at Philippians, Contented Joy…As I travel around our city & talk to folks…strangers & friends alike I don’t hear a lot of that “contentment.” There are lots of reasons for that I suppose, but I always try to offer a different perspective…the one I receive from Jesus. God the Father has entrusted all things to the Son & since he’s the One who defeated death, sin, & the devil I reckon he’s got me pretty secure too…and you too…and this whole world if we’d just give up trying to “fix” what sin broke. We can’t. He has. It really is that simple.

We’re also heading into the final weeks of the church year…Reformation Sunday (29th October), All Saints’ Sunday (5th November), & Christ the King Sunday (26th November). Then Advent starts (3rd December) and you know what comes after that…I’ll have more to say about that in the next week or two.

I’m going to do something God has put on my heart to do…I’m going to make myself available to listen to people. Yep…I’m going to the Marketplace & sit at a table with a coffee & a sign that says, “I’m here to listen” and see what happens. I have no idea if anyone will sit down and talk…but I’ve been bothered by the idea that many people seem to have no one who’ll listen to them. Pray that I’m faithful & don’t get scared & run away from the challenge. Pray too that someone takes me up on the offer & I serve them well with my ears & my heart.

I’ll leave you with this from my morning devotions…This is the Scripture I want on my tombstone.

I am overwhelmed with joy in the Lord my God!

For he has clothed me with the garments of salvation

and wrapped me in a robe of righteousness.

I am like a bridegroom dressed for his wedding

or a bride with her jewels. – Isaiah 61:10

It’s true now…but I reckon at that point it’ll be so true I can’t even imagine how true it will be.

I pray you find that same joy every day!

John
