WOW!

WOW!

Ok…mark this down in the “God is good all the time” category!

Yesterday afternoon I received a phone call from a local eating establishment. I know the owners & frequent their place from time to time…but it’s been a while…a long while.

They asked if I had any more of our Christmas Services postcards. Someone had left a few on one of their tables & they spread them around for people to take. People “took,” and now they wanted some more. So…Sue & I are going to make sure they get some more. And just like that…we’ve got a gospel partner helping us do what each of us needs to do…extending an invitation to receive the greatest gift one could ever hope to receive…Jesus. I don’t know who dropped off that first little stack of postcards. “Good on ya’!” whoever it was, but that one small gesture may well bear fruit somehow in someway that we cannot predict. Let’s all follow that example & invite folks who might not otherwise hear of God’s eternal love in Jesus…and pray for unpredictable results! God is good all the time!

Now…some business that just needs to stay on our calendars…

  1. Zoom Bible Study Catch-up
    Friday 6th December 6, 2024 @ 1:00 p.m.
    Join Zoom Meeting  —  https://us02web.zoom.us/j/83006349720  —  Meeting ID: 830 0634 9720
  2. Since Advent is upon us that means Christmas is right around the corner…
    • Christmas Eve is Tuesday, 24th December – Worship is at 7:00 p.m. Ask Liz or Philippa how you can help out!
    • Christmas Day is Wednesday, 25th December – Worship is at 9:00 a.m. A few more hands here too would be great! Talk to Liz and Philippa.
  3. Let’s talk 2025…
    • As I’ve mentioned a few times, we’ll be praying our way into 2025 with a Saturday Morning Prayer Time @ our place on Saturday 4th January @ 10:00 a.m. We’ll pray with thanksgiving for all that God has given us in 2024 & to be ready to receive & share his gifts in 2025. I’d like us to start a pattern of praying ourselves into each new season. Let’s fill the house!
    • UnEarthed: Uncovering stories of Faith in Australia – Thursday 27th February 2025 – This citywide multi-church evangelism event will be a FREE event for you, your families, and friends held at the Range Function Centre. Please note that date! This is going to be HUGE for our city as many of the churches are finally working together to see Christ’s kingdom reach wider than any individual church can stretch. It’s going to include Karl Faase, Colin Buchanan (and his adult country repertoire) and special guests from the Faith Runs Deep documentary interview series. All-Australian stories of faith in Christ from the length & breadth of this sunburnt country…the Great Southland of the Holy Spirit. The plan is for you & me to invite our not-yet-Christian friends & family so they can have an enjoyable FREE evening AND hear a clear offer of the Gospel. The rest is up to the Holy Spirit.
  1. I’ve been watching with great thankfulness your exceeding generosity over the past few months. We’d truly reached the point where some financial commitments were not going to get met…a first for us…BUT you responded as I knew you would; with gracious open-handedness & exceeding open-heartedness. Thank you! With only a few weeks left in the year, let’s stretch to finish well above the break-even line. Just because the crisis has momentarily been avoided, let’s do all we can to not get back in that position in 2025.

I’ve shared before that one of my favourite Bible verses is Daniel 3:16b-18. It’s that moment when King Nebuchadnezzar has Shadrach, Meshach & Abednego tied up & about to be tossed in the fiery furnace because they won’t bow down & worship his grandiose statue of himself. He gives them one last chance to submit & they respond, “O Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need to defend ourselves before you. If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God whom we serve is able to save us. He will rescue us from your power, Your Majesty. But even if he doesn’t, we want to make it clear to you, Your Majesty, that we will never serve your gods or worship the gold statue you have set up.”

God grant each of us “even if” boldness in faith & confident assurance that nothing deters our devotion or distracts our dedication to “finishing the work assigned us by the Lord Jesus—the work of telling others the Good News about the wonderful grace of God.”

See y’all Sunday…or somewhere in between!

Peace

John
