WOW! and Thank you!

WOW! and Thank you!

You read that right…WOW! What a beautiful Sunday morning God gave us  for the Lake Fun Run-n-Ride!

Although there are always some “serious” competitors running against the clock for future more intense races, the number of smiles & “thank yous” far outnumbered the grimaces & gruelling paces set by the few. AND…Thank YOU! to everyone who came to help be part of our annual serving at the water station. Serving like we do a few times of the year like this (and like many of you did in July planting trees out at CSU) and then gathering later for lunch and Bible Study/worship around the tables is great for us in so many ways.

As always…the food was delicious & plentiful and the conversation around Acts 4 & 5 was insightful & engaging.

Well done to all of you! If you missed it…you really missed out. Mark your calendars for these sorts of events next year.

Some quick reminders…

Zoom Bible Study Catch-up  —  Friday 29th September 2023 @ 1:00 p.m.

Join Zoom Meeting  —  https://us02web.zoom.us/j/83586782734  —  Meeting ID: 835 8678 2734 (We’ll pick up a few loose ends & leftover questions from Acts 4 & 5)

Daylight Savings starts this weekend. Set your clocks forward an hour when you go to bed Saturday night.

This coming Sunday, 1st October, our Giving Beyond Ourselves is targeted for the Riverina Conservatorium of Music’s Bursary Fund. Your generosity supports students who can’t afford the full cost of their music lessons. Our girls were beneficiaries for a term or two…15 years or so ago maybe. It’s a great way to help out. We give in thanksgiving for & memory of Tamaris Pfeiffer-Tait. I know we’ll be generous.

Sunday the 1st is also a Morning Tea Sunday. Come & hang around for a while. There is always some good conversation around the wonderful treats!

Living Water Fellowship’s Annual General Meeting is: 15th October immediately following worship…or as soon as we can get ourselves organized. We’ll set out morning tea & then get going. Lots to thank God for this year…and lots to get ready for in the year ahead. I’m hopeful we’ll have the Book of Reports to you by the 8th…the Steering Team just needs to get everything to Sue & we’re set.

Photos…I’m looking for the most recent photos of Living Water that you have. If you’ve got one of me doing a wedding, (or a wedding of someone from Living Water) or of the Fun Run over the last year or two, or from our Anniversary Sunday…or anything from the last 3-5 yearsplease get them to me. Our website is in dire need of new photos! Even a 5 year old snapshot is streets ahead of some we have on our website at the moment. Let’s start 2024 with something new on our public face.

Over the last worship series, about Functional Living as followers of Jesus…a few folks asked me for some specifics of what ‘functional living’ as a disciple looks like. Their observation was that from week to week there was a great similarity to the sermons. That observation is spot on…whether I’m trying to be a “functional” husband, father, friend, pastor, community member, fellow disciple at Living Water or just walking down the street… “Functional” is you & me  maturing in likeness to Jesus Christ such that we make a difference whenever you show up wherever you are. “Functional” living means that we grow so closely in resemblance to Jesus that we add value to every interaction in our day…we encourage, care, give, help, hold accountable, bring joy, offer kindness…in the way of Jesus. Two weeks back I said, “the life & work of the church is solely & only to live the life of Jesus everywhere we are every day we live.” Hold on to that last bit…everywhere we are every day we live. You’re never “off duty” as a disciple of Jesus. We live his life, or better, he lives through us, everywhere we are every day we live.

That’s how we take hold of the assurance of Galatians 2:20 – “I have been crucified with Christ & it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.” Christ lives through us everywhere we are every day we live, and our life & work as his church is to allow his life to be what comes out of us. Pray for that & by the Spirit we see it again and again.

See you Sunday too! It should be another great morning…have a read of Philippians 1 before you get there…We’re starting a new series & it’s a cracker!

Peace

John
