Welcome to Wednesday!

Welcome to Wednesday!

Happy Hump Day Y’all!

Glad to see the sunshine again after the first part of the month was so wet. I started today in a Zoom meeting with other area CrossLink pastors & some of the CrossLink Board. Those are the best meetings I have ever had as a pastor meeting with other church leaders. CrossLink is the perfect network for us in terms of prayer support and personal encouragement. One of these days, when we’re having large gatherings again…I’d love for some of y’all to go with me & truly get to know some of these wonderful Kingdom of God co-workers we have here in Australia and around the world.

Speaking of Zooms…let me get a couple things out of the way & then I’ll say more about that CrossLink linkage…

  1. Friday, 1st July – Zoom Bible Study Catch-up

Join Zoom Meeting – https://us02web.zoom.us/j/88022194499 — Meeting ID: 880 2219 4499

We’ll be re-engaging with Sunday’s text from Romans 5. It’s always a good hour together.

  1. Sunday 3rd July – We’re welcoming Rev. Rachel Dunwell and other guests from Destiny Rescue.

Destiny Rescue literally rescues young people (mostly children) from the human trafficking trade. The stories can be harrowing…but what DR does is amazing.

This is our GBO for July so please be generous as always. This ministry reaches into some of the darkest pits of despair & brings young men and women into the light of Christ and freedom.

We’ll also have Morning Tea together this week…so you’ll have ample opportunity to talk to our guests and learn more…maybe more than you ever thought possible about our world.

I’ll probably say more about this in a few weeks…but the Bible Study this morning was from Matthew 9:14-17…the “new wine requires new wineskins” conversation. I’ve been reflecting on that with respect to Living Water…as we crossed our 9th birthday as a congregation the other week…how we are something of a new wine in a new wineskin…wholly outside of denominational hierarchies and traditional top-down leadership like most of us lived for most of our lives…

According to Jesus, when new wine is poured into old wineskins, the skins burst, the wine spills out, & the skins are ruined. But new wine in new skins preserves both the wine & the skins. It’s worth reflecting on…that as we pursue a living  expression of Jesus & his kingdom in our lives, how that is very different from simply perpetuating “church” in whatever form that takes. Being a disciple is a different call from being a church member. Like I say…give me a couple of weeks to pray about that and do some more study…but I do believe we have something to celebrate as we allow the Spirit to continue its work in us as a band of disciples following Jesus in this world.

It’s also worth noting that we’ve got more than a few people feeling the effects of the cold & flu season in which we find ourselves, and a few still taking a coronavirus hit now and again. So…do your best to stay well and healthy…pray for & do what you can to help out those who are struggling with illness.

God grant you his deepest joys this week!

John
