One question…

One question…

Ok…I have a question…just one…

What happened to January? Where did it go? Did someone take January while I wasn’t watching or just what? I remember precisely where I was on January 1st 2023…Sam & Tara’s wedding…beautiful setting at the Attunga Christian Camp outside Canyonleigh, NSW. We were sitting outside looking over a beautiful expansive valley right behind the camp’s outdoor amphitheatre & it was gorgeous! But as I sit here a mere 30 days later…where’d those days go?

So…since it seems the world won’t slow down…let’s march into it the way God intended…empowered by his word, enlivened by his Spirit, & embraced by his Son.

  1. Morning Tea & Giving Beyond Ourselves is this week. Our February gift is toward Riding for the Disabled, our annual memorial gift in memory of Chris Bedgood. And well…you know what morning tea is!
  2. Ash Wednesday is 22nd February…Worship is in the Guide Hall & I’ll have details closer to the day…Lent is an incredible season & the worship and teaching for the season will enrich your life in Christ. You just don’t want to miss a Sunday.
  3. Leonie has mentioned Life Transformation Groups a few times & we’ve had some access to printed spiritual resources the last couple of weeks. It leads to the question: How are you intentionally growing in faith & imitation of Jesus this year? I’m ready to start or join at least 1 if not 2 LTGs. I can go day times or nights. So…if you’re not part of one, or have room for one more body…I’m happy to check schedules.

I’m looking at offering the Ladies’ Fellowship a Bible Study this year on Exodus. I love the book of Exodus…and this is my first chance to teach it in an intentional format. AND we’ll have a season of worship & preaching on Exodus as well during much of the season of Pentecost…June, July & August. Lots to learn here…lots to challenge & grow our trust in God & lead us deeper into his love for us. Go ahead…start reading it in advance! You’ll be glad you did.

Speaking of Exodus…I’ve shared this briefly a couple of times with some folks already…and you’ll hear more of it on Sunday but Exodus 4:11-12 is a great bit of “grab you by the lapels & shake some sense into you” challenge from God. God has decided to free his people from slavery in Egypt & bring them into a land he has set aside for them & into which he will plant them as a sign of his mercy for all nations. The Promised Land was always intended as a place where all the nations of the world would come to worship the Father…and God says very clearly “That starts now as I set you free from your bondage!”

But you know the story…Moses is reluctant to be the leader God chooses him to be. His cup runs over with excuses and evasions…until finally God says: “Who makes a person’s mouth? Who decides whether people speak or do not speak, hear or do not hear, see or do not see? Is it not I, the Lord? Now go! I will be with you as you speak, and I will instruct you in what to say.” – Ex. 4:11-12

Absolutely awesome. God will simply not be denied by those he chooses to carry out his will in the world. As Creator, Companion, Guide & King the entirety of our lives is under the Father’s sovereign & total ownership. Everything God’s people need God will provide & every command God gives to His people God will equip us to obey. Just let that start to take over how you see your lives…Everything you are falls under God’s authority & everything pleasing to him that brings more of your life in submission to him he will give as necessary. Are you living that boldly in your life…in your marriage, in your parenting, in your generosity, in your intentional witness to the not-yet-Christians around you, in how you manage your household, in your work, in your relationships with the people you know or meet in town…you get the idea. Don’t try to tell God, “I can’t because…” He’ll provide that thing you think is missing. I find Moses’ reluctance amusing…I know a bunch of Christians just like him. But I also know how the Father responds.

See you Sunday…and Friday in the Zoom Room before that!

John
