Lent begins!

Lent begins!

By the time most of you read this it’ll be Ash Wednesday…Lent begins!

What that means is in many ways between you & Jesus.

I’m not being flippant or casual about the importance of the season of Lent, but deadly serious that I hope for each of you this season is a time when you really sit with Jesus & his word in a significant way differently from your usual routine. I do hope you open your life to his transforming power via prayer, worship, works of love, reading the Scriptures, differently than the usual. I especially encourage you to be devoted & specific in your praying. Pray for those you love, for those around you in worship, for friends & family, for your governmental leaders as we head toward an election, for the Living Water Steering Team & its servants, for other churches & their pastors, for our schools & those who serve in them, and for those you know in this city who are not yet part of the family of Christ. Let prayer be the driving energy behind your witness, worship & work. Oswald Chambers says it best; “Prayer does not fit us for the greater works; prayer is the greater work.” So…before you engage in the work of this week, please pray that God would lead you & others into each of these opportunities for his kingdom’s growth:

  1. Ash Wednesday Worship, March 5th, 7:00 p.m. @ the Guide Hall. We kick-off our Lent worship & teaching series Whole-Hearted: Repentance
  2. World Day of Prayer Service – Friday 7th March @ 10:00 a.m. – St Aidan’s Presbyterian Church Coleman Street.
  3. Zoom Bible Study Catch-up
    Friday 7th March 2025  @ 1:00 p.m.
    Join Zoom Meeting  — https://us02web.zoom.us/j/81166125179  —  Meeting ID: 811 6612 5179
  4. This Sunday, 9th March, we’ll continue the Lent theme Whole-Hearted: Reconciliation. What does it mean to live reconciled to the Father & commanded to be similarly reconciled to those who’ve hurt you or wronged you…and then offer that reconciliation in Jesus’ Name to those who do not yet live in his great forgiving love? Repentance is but one step in the journey of the follower of Jesus…Worship during Lent leads us along the way.

Also continue to pray for the follow-up to UnEarthed. That was a unique moment in the life of our town…let’s pray that it has a legacy-sized impact.

I’ll see you in worship

John
