Journey of Promise

Journey of Promise

Happy Wednesday y’all!

Apologies for not getting this in your hands sooner…but here we are! Let’s get the immediate thoughts straight into the mix…

  1. Zoom Bible Study Catch-up – Acts 2:1-21 & John 7:37-39

Friday – 2nd June 2023 @ 1:00 PM (There are a couple of birthdays that day! And another on Sunday I believe…What fun!)

  1. GBO & Biggest Morning Tea this Sunday (4th June) to Support & Celebrate the work of the Cancer Council

This is usually our biggest Giving Beyond Ourselves of the year. You know what to do. 😉

  1. I’m still inviting volunteers to share part of their faith stories for the coming worship series on Exodus: A Journey of Promise

I believe our generations have much to learn from one another. I’m planning something of a brief one-on-one interview where a volunteer Senior Saint would answer a couple of “starter” questions like (What’s one promise of God you’ve seen fulfilled in your lifetime? What a promise of God you’d like to see fulfilled before this life ends for you?) and then something specific to the week: When does trusting God’s promise feel more like a burden than a blessing? Shoot me an email or give me a ring…There’s still time to get the pieces in place before Sunday.

  1. Living Water’s 10th Birthday…Sunday June 25th. God’s incredible goodness & persistent grace is the focus that morning as well as some important planning & praying toward the next 10 years. The Steering Team is working on a festive conclusion for worship that day. We’ll likely need some helpers to make it all come together nicely, so be ready to put your hand up. Don’t miss it; and if you’ve got some ideas about the 20th birthday & what can happen between now & then…let’s talk about it.

This week I was reading a portion of Psalm 119…the longest in the Psalms. This set of verses stayed with me…vss 35-38

Lead me in the path of your command, for that is where I find my delight.

Give my heart an eagerness for your decrees rather than for selfish gain.

Turn my eyes from worthless things, & give me life through your word.

Reassure me of your promise, to bring about reverence for you.

Psalm 119 is 176 verses of poetry celebrating the goodness, grace, & blessing of God revealed to us & for us through his word. The Psalmist reminds us that God’s word is sufficient for our life as his people. We find in God’s word the promise of Jesus that makes us righteous, His wisdom for living as God’s child, the discernment & strength for every good work, and the power to claim victory over the evil one. The Scriptures are a reflection of God’s nature. By them we discover we can trust His character & purposes for us even when our way is marked with struggle, suffering, affliction, or persecution. My prayer this week is that the Psalmist’s prayer is one that finds fulfilment in you & me every day.

Be richly & repeatedly blessed this week so that you can share that grace with someone in need!

See you Friday & then for the Biggest Morning Tea GBO on Sunday!

John
