It’s STILL Tuesday!

It’s STILL Tuesday!

Ok…I know I promised this would hit the website & most of your in-boxes on Tuesday…but most of you are seeing it on Wednesday…at least I wrote it Tuesday night before the rain came.

As my teachers used to say…partial credit! 😉

So…let’s get to it…

  1. Zoom Bible Study Catch-Up

Friday – 7th October 2022 @ 1:00 PM

Join Zoom Meeting  —  https://us02web.zoom.us/j/88022194499 — Meeting ID: 880 2219 4499

  1. Thank you! Over $400 to our GBO this month supporting the Bursary Fund @ the Conservatorium in honour of Tamaris Pfeiffer-Tait. Those gifts help young musicians who can’t always afford the costs of a first class music education. Many long years ago, at least one of our girls was helped for a time. So…Thank you.
  2. AGM – Unless the floors can’t be finished…we’re still on for the 23rd of October directly following worship.
  3. Speaking of the floors… Starting next Sunday we can start moving non-essentials out of the building into safe & secure spaces in our homes until the work is completed. Thank you to everyone who has offered a space in their house, garage, or shed. We’ll need every square centimetre!
  4. A mystery “Claim the Date” – I’m inviting you to mark 11th November on your calendar. More than just Remembrance Day…I’ve got a special request for a wonderful way we can start drawing the year to a close beginning on that date. So…mark the 11th on your calendar & note that it’s 50 days until 2022 comes to an end.

Finally…I’ve mentioned before that I get a daily devotion from Pastor Scotty Smith of the Gospel Coalition.

Some days I know I have to share them…so https://www.thegospelcoalition.org/blogs/scotty-smith/famous-trios/ if you want the whole thing. I’m going to paraphrase some of it here.

He begins by noting 3 Bible verses:

  • Psalm 115:3 – Our God is in heaven; he does whatever pleases him.
  • Job 42:2 – I know that you can do all things; no purpose of yours can be thwarted.
  • Isaiah 46:9-10 – Remember the things I have done in the past. For I alone am God! I am God, and there is none like me.

Only I can tell you the future before it even happens. Everything I plan will come to pass, for I do whatever I wish.

Each verse, from the lives of three very different Old Testament stalwarts of faith, is a reminder that God remains sovereign over all of our lives despite the circumstances, situations, or struggles that occur. As much as our world likes to point the finger of blame at world leaders, human agency, or “fate,” Scripture is clear that it is God who has his hands on the wheel of time, space & history. He alone determines the course and destiny of life as we know it. He was sovereign over King David’s personal failure, busted up betrayed family, & contested kingship. He was sovereign over Job’s losses, grief, misery, waiting, awful friends, lack of answers, & struggles of faith. He was sovereign over Isaiah’s crumbling world, hard slog ministry, & hope-filled promises.

The unknown fear-inducing, anxiety-producing, worry-provoking threats of our world are not ultimate…they do not get the final word on us.

God engages in our lives with grace to delight us & strength to carry us through to his desired destiny.

Let that be the encouragement you need & share this week.

John
