Holy Week!

Holy Week!

31 March 2026

Welcome to Holy Week everyone! We began where Jesus did…in Jerusalem to the adoring cheers of a multitude hoping for a deliverer King who triumphed over Israel’s enemies by a grand display of power & might. What they got instead was…a King who delivers, saves, rescues in the most unlikely way, by dying & rising. And that’s the story of this week: Christ’s dying & rising to rule over all things in accord with the Father’s will to restore all creation to himself & destroy once & for all & forever sin, death & the evil one. Don’t miss a minute of worship this week & be sure to invite someone to join you. Just to remind you one more time…

  • Holy Week schedule!
    • Palm Sunday – 29th March @ our regular 10:00 a.m. time
    • Maundy Thursday – 2nd April @ 7:00 p.m.
    • Good Friday – 3rd April @ 9:00 a.m.
    • Easter Sunday – 5th April @ 10:00 a.m.

A reminder: Set your clocks back one hour on Saturday the 4th of April

In my daily reading I’m a bit ahead of the story…in Pentecost actually & I love Peter’s sermon to the gobsmacked crowd that has witnessed the tongues of fire & the variety of languages. After explaining that the commotion was not due to an overindulgence of alcohol but an indwelling of the Holy Spirit Peter quotes Psalm 16:

‘I see that the Lord is always with me.
I will not be shaken, for he is right beside me.
No wonder my heart is glad,
and my tongue shouts his praises!
    My body rests in hope.
For you will not leave my soul among the dead
or allow your Holy One to rot in the grave.
You have shown me the way of life,
filling me with the pleasures of living with you forever.’

Peter quotes this Psalm of David first as prophecy fulfilled, as such it is then a proclamation of the gospel in the current moment, which then for us who believe it stands as a promise. As we enter the joy of Christ’s self-offering for us…receive each word of God in just that way…prophecy, proclamation & promise…all made true in Jesus.

See you at each step along the way,

John
