12 Aug Have I mentioned…
Welcome to another beautiful week!
I’m hopeful we see some rain here in a day or two but I’m loving the sunny cool weather! My bicycle is loving it too!
Have I mentioned how much I’m enjoying reading through the Psalms? I really am…for instance yesterday I read Psalm 92…verses 12-14 really caught me…
But the godly will flourish like palm trees and grow strong like the cedars of Lebanon.
For they are transplanted to the Lord’s own house.
They flourish in the courts of our God.
Even in old age they will still produce fruit; they will remain vital and green.
Parts of the Psalm contrast the destiny of the wicked versus that of the godly, or “righteous,” those who live by faith in God & live abiding in his presence. That always includes active participation in the life of God’s people: worship, fellowship, care for others in the community, devotion to God’s Word…you get the idea. As my lovely wise wife says, “They’re in it to win it.” Remember…you can’t legitimately call yourself part of the family if you never show up when the family gathers. The “godly” or “righteous” are those who take an active participatory role in the communal expressions of faith that characterize God’s people.
Look at what comes of that lifestyle! Flourishing. Strength. Dwelling IN God’s presence. AND the one that really sings…the last bit…old age is not a stopper to “producing fruit.” Old age is not the end of the road among God’s people. God’s people add value to everything they do until they die. They put more in than they take out. They contribute to the flourishing of the community until the community farewells them into eternity. God’s people are contributors more than they are consumers. Givers more than takers. They never rest on their laurels & past accomplishments or achievements. They don’t “retire” from the life of the community & put their feet up. If nothing else they spend more time in fervent unceasing prayer for the people they know & the work the Christian community still has to do to make Christ’s love dominant in their wider city. Until Christ takes you home…there is some way you can have a fruit-bearing impact in the ministry God has given to his church. If you’re not sure…let’s talk about that because I have no shortage of suggestions! 😉
Now…a few notes for our community…
