a few thoughts for the next little bit…

a few thoughts for the next little bit…

Hey everyone!

A couple late-in-the-week notes…reminders & things to bless you…

  1. NO Zoom Bible Study Catch-up (either the 16th or the 23rd)
    Zooms Resume Friday – 30th August 2024 @ 1:00 p.m.
I’ll throw down the details & links closer to the day!
(We’ll have lots of Jeremiah & other cool stuff to talk about by then)
  2. NOW…some things for the next few weeks…Don’t miss out!
    1. August 18th…a special morning tea & worship event…
    2. August 25th…worship & soup…a creative & fun way to be together as a disciple community! If you’d like to bring soup that morning, please call Liz & let her know.
    3. September 8th – Mark Woodhouse from CSU’s UniChurch (AFES) will be joining us. AFES is our GBO for September & we’ll thank Mark, Kate & their crew out there by being generous in our support that day.
    4. September 22nd…perhaps another special guest…details are being worked out…but it’s a foretaste of an event scheduled for February 20, 2025.
    5. LWF AGM – 6th October immediately following worship. We have much to thank God for this year again. Also…this might be a good time to talk with a current Steering Team member about your role in leadership in the coming year.

With each of these we’ll be trying out some different ways to worship & experience word & sacrament together. For them to go well, it’s best if you’re there.

Enjoy the different style of experiencing God’s Word and the interactions within the body of Christ that is Living Water Fellowship.

AND…since this will be something different from the norm…invite a friend who wouldn’t otherwise join in a traditional style of service.

God is doing so much among us to bring life to this city & for the advance of his kingdom in it…you just don’t want to miss a minute!

I’m up to the Psalms in my yearly Bible reading…I’m so glad I get to go in depth in some of that with Ladies Fellowship…the Psalms are a huge bubbling pool of living water God uses to nourish & flourish his work in our lives. If you were looking for a Bible reading plan…Reading one Psalm & one chapter of a gospel daily would be of immense good for you. But today I hit Psalm 103.

Scholars who have time to count these things tell me that Psalm 103:1-2 are the exact middle verses of the Bible. There are equal numbers of verses both before & after…depending on your translation of course. But think about that…If you were to choose something for the very centre of the Bible, what would you choose? Well the Holy Spirit chose this:

1 Let all that I am praise the Lord; with my whole heart, I will praise his holy name.

Let all that I am praise the Lord; may I never forget the good things he does for me.

Think of this like the axis of the earth…all of life revolving around worship of God. The entire universe spins for worship. And it forces me to ask…do I live that way? Does my life revolve around constant worship & praise of the God who creates, sustains, save, & guides me to himself daily? If you followed me around would you hear me speaking blessing as I have been blessed? Kindness as I have been treated kindly? Peace & hope, joy & compassion as I have received those gifts from the Father? Would a stranger find at the very centre of my daily living a response of complete devotion to the One who calls me his own & does “good things” for me every day, and especially by the death & resurrection of Jesus?

3 He forgives all my sins and heals all my diseases.
He redeems me from death and crowns me with love and tender mercies.
He fills my life with good things. My youth is renewed like the eagle’s!

Whatever else is going on in my life…this I remember & cling to and what emerges soon after is worship & praise, hope & joy.

Let all these good things fill your life & your memory & then lead you into persistent constant worship…so that your living revolves around that sort of complete abandon & devotion to the God who made you in his love for his love.

Peace

John
