18 May 18th May…get ready for Pentecost!
Ok…let me put it like this…
The mornings can be as cold as they like, just give me these sunny afternoons!
I hope you’re being blessed this week as we head into our Pentecost celebrations…the pouring out of the Holy Spirit to engage us in the greatest “conspiracy” the world has ever experienced. You’ll just have to join us Sunday to see what I mean by “conspiracy.” But it’s for good not evil and you’re already part of it. So don’t quit now…be there Sunday! (and wear something red…It’s Pentecost)
BUT…to whet your appetite & tweak your interest…I’m reading 1 Corinthians. Paul’s writing to a troubled church & he uses some strong language to draw them back into line, but there’s something he repeats for emphasis…and this is awesome:
“Do you not know that you yourselves are God’s temple & that God’s Spirit dwells in you?” – 1 Cor 3:16
“Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you & was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself, for God bought you with a high price.” – 1 Cor 6:19-20
“For we are the temple of the living God. As God said: ‘I will live in them & walk among them. I will be their God, & they will be my people.'” – 2 Cor 6:16
Paul keeps calling us back to who we already are in Christ…We are inhabited by the Holy Spirit (the power & presence of God). We are baptized into Christ which Paul will tell the Galatians means that Christ himself is alive in us & living through us daily. What else do I need in this world? Who can threaten me with anything that the power of God that raised Jesus from the dead can’t handle? For what do I need to apologize or feel ashamed or be afraid? If you can’t come up with any answers…good…because the answer is nothing, no one, nothing at all. Our confidence is not in ourselves but in the One who died & rose for us & has sent his Spirit to live within & among us and operate through us.
